Fantastic

Brent Jones did an amazing job of putting us in the mind of a tortured soul and following her journey. Kristen James did a great job of bringing that soul to life. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a book a little on the darker side.

An action-packed story

Homicidal librarian? Small town? Strong female lead? Yes, please! My favorite part of this series is internal struggle Afton has with wanting to kill. Trying not to spoil anything but once she embraces who she is, things get very interesting. Let’s just say she turns on the badass and it’s so cool to see. I also love the side characters. Jones did a fantastic job and letting us as an audience fall in love with them too. Kind makes me want a spin of series... 10/10 would recommend for those of use who love a bit of dark humor, strong female leads, and an action-packed story.

P.S. The voice actor for this series was so PERFECT!

WOW!! Didn't see it coming...

No spoilers, just a wholehearted recommendation.
Superb narration! It was like listening to a radio-play. (Does anyone younger than my generation remember those?) Kristin James is stupendous (wish I could give her 6 stars, if not more) One person doing all those voices; she's just amazing.
And the story! I was not prepared for the ending. It twisted around and took me totally by surprise. I found myself replaying parts to better follow what seemed to be Afton's evolution. But was it? Had it been there all along and I missed it? I'll never look at librarians in quite the same way again. Thank you, Brent Jones, for a terrific story.

Too unrealistic

This story isn't for me. In addition to being contrived and predictable, the characters are neither likable nor believable. Kristin James gives these characters distinctive voices, but I don't like the voice she chose to use for a couple of the characters. I like that the story is contemporary, but I cannot abide the lack of realism.

The bonus short story is quite funny in a satirical way, but it's unrealistic as well. Wyatt Baker's performance of this short story is satisfactory.

Great Read

The Afton Morrison Series was a great Read by Brent Jones. This book consisted of the first four books in the series as well as a bonus short story; Go Home, Afton; See You Soon, Afton; Time’s Up, Afton; and A Book With No Pictures. This was a great series that followed Afton Morrison, a children’s librarian with a dark secret. I loved reading this series and can’t wait to read more by Brent Jones.

Thankfully, the entire series is included....

It is a very good thing that the entire series is included in one production because I don't think readers could handle waiting months to move from book to book. Brent Jones knows how to write a cliffhanger that left me listening for just one more reveal until I had the book finished in two days. Afton Morrison is a complex character - both kick-ass strong and vulnerable at the same time. Her relationships with her brother and her friends were equally complex. She cared deeply for the important people in her life but came across as sarcastic and unfeeling in her dealings with them. On one hand, Afton was this caring librarian that gave ice cream to a lonely boy, acted as mentor for a lonely teenager, and offered comfort to an assault victim. On the other hand, she was planning (and looking forward to committing) multiple murders but justifying them by only planning to kill BAD people.

Jones impressively uses foreshadowing to not only draw the reader ever deeper into the story, but he drops these clues that leave the reader thinking: what just happened? I never could have guessed all the twists and turns this book would take, but I certainly enjoyed Afton's wild and crazy journey to an end to her quest. However, it might only be an end for now because Jones definitely left the door open for future adventures for Afton.

The narrator, Kristin James, did an excellent job helping with the creepiness factor of The Afton Morrison Series. She fantastically portrays the various emotions of all the characters, and she really knows how to make the psychopaths sound all the crazier. Between Brent Jones prose and Kristin James narration, this book could join the ranks of Hitchcock Presents and The Twilight Zone. I highly recommend this audiobook and would definitely listen to another book with the author or the narrator.

Inside the Mind

Fascinating experience of being inside the mind of a tormented young woman looking for justice and vindication as she bumbles through life, work and relationships with a goal to shutting down some abusive criminals - forever. Uniquely stirring and unsettling in how the book so consistently captures the thoughts and perspectives of this young woman as she struggles with life.

Excellent work !!

Over the past couple of years I've become a very devoted reader and follower of Brent Jones's writing. Brent has proven to me that he is capable of writing a wide variety of topics. His work stated out with writing that was so emotional that it brought tears to my eyes. His early work included short stories as well as full length novels. All of which were equally heart touching for me.

Brent's most recent work is a four volume effort called The Afton Morrison Series. As I read these four volumes I wanted more, and more, and more. I found myself journeying along with Miss Afton Morrison. Afton is a somewhat misguided young lady with the personality of an angel. She works as a librarian during the day and stabs people to death in cold blood at night. I suppose that I should hate her and wish for her to get caught and locked away so that she can not attack anyone else. But, Brent has written this series in such a way that I really, really, like Afton. I fully believe that she is trying to rid the world of evil people when she commits murder.

As I read each of these volumes I found that it was nearly impossible for me to put the book(s) down. I had to know that Afton wasn't going to get hurt. I had to know that Afton would seek and receive the professional help that she needs to regain her sanity.

When I saw that Brent had an audio version made of The Afton Morrison Series I was so excited. I've been listening to the audio version over the past several days. Kristin James, the main narrator in this series has done an outstanding job. Her range of voices brings the series to life. Wyatt Baker, the second narrator also adds a great amount of value to this work of art.

Too bad that this series ended with only four volumes. I want to read more about Afton,s journey through life. Somehow I feel very connected to that girl.

This series along with everything else that Brent has written so far leaves opportunity for expansion. His work is highly satisfying to an avid reader like myself. He ends his work with several doors still open for possible future volumes. Hopefully, he will expand on his work some day especially with Afton Morrison.

Thanks, Brent Jones, for keeping a hungry reader wanting more.

A Rollercoaster Ride Filled with Thrills!

The Afton Morrison series was a nice break from what I normally listen to. Afton is a dark character, but the author uses humor in places to lighten it up. She is the type of character you wouldn't mind having as an ally, but not someone you would want to be neighbors. You certainly wouldn't want to cross her.

I enjoyed her journey and hope Brent Jones writes more of Afton Morrison. The story is filled with many twists and things you won't see coming. If you like the John Cleaver series by Dan Wells, you will love this series. This is a good one to take on a long road trip too!

The narrators are very good and helped bring these characters to life.
